10 Ways to Make Your New Year's Resolution Stick in San Diego

Happy 2023! I'm ready for the yearly Let's get in shape challenge. This time for real! game. Ready to play? Seriously, though. Like you, I play this game every year. Is 2023 the year? Perhaps I can reach my fitness goals with these ideas for getting fit in San Diego? How about you? In 2023, what is your fitness goal?

GO FOR A HIKE

A variety of hiking trails can be found in and around San Diego gyms of all skill levels. As you huff and puff, the beauty surrounding you will distract you. I recommend Torrey Pines hikes for beginners. It's possible to accomplish the 5 Peak Challenge on the Mission Trails for a bit more advanced hikers. Getting the award might not be as satisfying as getting the medal itself. A six-pack of peaks can be climbed by serious hikers, too.

For hiking buddies, look up some local hiking groups on Facebook. Personally, I love hiking and try to get out on the trails as often as possible. This year, I'm committed to the San Diego Six Packs of Peaks. It's said you will be more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down and announce them to the world? You'll be able to follow my hiking progress on my blog, so stay tuned!

FIND A PERSONAL TRAINER

Having a personal trainer works for me for some reason. You may be motivated to work out by the money you spend, or perhaps you are afraid of them screaming at you at your next weigh-in. No, but in all seriousness. Getting fit can be easier with the help of these experts.

Check out Groupon if you're surprised by the costs of personal training. They are very common at the beginning of the year, especially.

SPEND TIME ON THE WATER

In winter, it might not seem like the best time for watersports, but at least there are no crowds on running trails and biking trails. What about kayaking or paddleboarding? Staying dry should be relatively easy once you know what you're doing. Mission Bay and San Diego Bay are wonderful spots for newcomers to watersports in San Diego.

GET A FITNESS TRACKER

My fitness tracker helped me improve my fitness a few years ago. If I'm really desperate, I also run around the living room like a crazy person when it's late at night. Nevertheless, every step counts, right?

PLAN NEW RUNNING / BIKING TRAILS

Change of scenery can be really beneficial. The county has many awesome routes for running, trail running, and biking for all levels of runners. There will be something to divert you and make your workout more enjoyable, whether you want to run/bike through downtown or in nature.

FIND A FITNESS BUDDY

If you make a commitment to someone else rather than just yourself, you are more likely to show up. The last thing you want to do is let your friend down when he or she is waiting for you at the gym or trailhead.

Additionally, it is nice to have someone to encourage you when you hit a low point or celebrate your victories. You can also learn a lot from them if they have more experience. You're also not as intimidated when you go to unfamiliar places (a gym) or place you don't know anyone (your first race). Now that you have found a training partner, get started!

FIND THE PERFECT GYM

I have to admit. As far as gyms are concerned, I don't belong to any. At least not anymore. In my San Diego gym days, I used to go a few times a week and met up with a personal trainer once a week, and that's when I really saw results. My exercise program included cardio and weightlifting a few times a week. I registered for my first 5k after a few months. Then a 10k. After that, I fell off the wagon and fell onto the couch. Funny how that happens

MEDITATION & YOGA: FIND YOUR ZEN

Often, when we plan to get fit, we neglect the mind. Your workout can be more productive if you meditate. If your mind is strong, you will be able to handle tough workouts and unexpected circumstances. I love the Headspace App. In addition, they offer fitness-specific meditations, such as walking meditations, for beginners and advanced practitioners.

The practice of yoga can also help you to improve your physical and mental health. Strengthening your muscles, becoming more flexible, and controlling your breathing all happen during yoga practice. In vigorous forms of yoga, such as Vinyasa or Hot Yoga, you can burn over 500 calories per hour.
